An equipment check will also be conducted to ensure you have all the necessary mountain gear; any missing gear can be rented on this day!

Day 1: Hotel - Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut.

Upon breakfast and briefing from your guide, you'll leave Moshi and head to the Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro. There, you'll register with the national park and start hiking. Traverse the lush rainforest, encountering towering Eucalyptus trees, diverse birdlife, and playful Colobus monkeys. Lunch will be enjoyed along the trail, and by mid-afternoon, you'll arrive at Mandara Huts. Unpack, rest, and perhaps take a short side trip to Maundi Crater for stunning views. Dinner will be served in the early evening, and bathrooms with running water are available at the huts!

Day 2: Mandara Hut - Horombo Hut.

Upon a 7:30 AM breakfast, prepare for your next trek. Departing by 8:30 AM, hike through rainforest glades for an hour, then ascend through heathland where giant lobelias and groundsels await. As you continue upwards, transition into open moorlands with small shrubs as the main vegetation. Pause halfway for lunch, enjoying views of Mawenzi. Reach Horombo Huts by 3:00 PM, offering vistas of Kibo's summit. Rest, unpack, and prepare for dinner with bathrooms available. Consider an extra day here for acclimatization or a climb to a basecamp below Kibo's sub-peak, Mawenzi!

  • Hiking time: 5-6 hours

Following breakfast, embark on the trek through the Alpine desert terrain. Traverse past the "Last Water Point" and onward to the Saddle, a desolate plateau nestled between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
