Nature Joy Discoveries specializes in organizing treks via the uniquely beautiful Rongai Route, which is noted for its relative easiness and beautiful scenery when compared to the Machame Route, with a high success rate. In contrast to the Marangu Route, which uses huts, accommodation on the Rongai involves sleeping in tents provided by the tour organization and put up by porters. Dining arrangements vary, with dinners served on blankets outside or within geared dinner tents.
The Rongai Route, which is less used than others, starts on the north side of the mountain, just south of the Kenyan border. As you ascend Kilimanjaro, you'll pass through several viewpoints before joining the Marangu Route for the summit trek down the mountain's southeast face!
5 nights in Kilimanjaro Mountain & 2 nights in Arusha/Moshi
Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro Aiport – Arusha/Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our professional driver will meet you with pleasure on behalf of Nature Joy Discoveries. You will then be transferred to a carefully selected, lovely hotel. After checking in, enjoy a great dinner and join our experienced Mountain organizers for a pre-safari briefing, which will provide useful insights into the next journey. Take a minute to rest and unwind in the peaceful surroundings of your lodging!
Day 1: Hotel - Nalemoru Gate - Simba Camp.
After breakfast, load up your luggage and drive four hours to the north side of Kilimanjaro, stopping at the Marangu gate for permits. Begin the hike once you have registered at Nalemoru gate. Pass through little farms and pine trees before entering the forest on the steep slopes, where you may see colobus monkeys. Porters set up your tent ahead of you while you climb at a slow pace to the Simba campsite in roughly four hours. Tents and warm washing water await, followed by a delicious meal!
Day 2: Simba Camp - Kikelewa Camp.
After a hearty breakfast of hot porridge and eggs, get out on your journey. Consider the changing vegetation, with more bushes dotting the moorland zone. Along the walk, you may take in beautiful views of the Kenyan plains and Mawenzi Peak. Stop for lunch at the second cave (450m) before continuing on to Kikelewa Camp across some curving terrain. Enjoy the camp's breathtaking views and take a minute to relax in the mountain's peaceful atmosphere!
Day 3: Kikelewa Camp - Mawenzi Tarn Hut.
Today, you'll notice a change in the environment, from the unique Senecias to the stony Moonscape. Clear skies provide views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Mawenzi Hut is around six hours of walking away. A tiny lake nearby frequently freezes overnight, resulting in cold temperatures. However, a nice lunch awaits you after a cold night!
Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn Hut - School Hut.
Today, you'll follow a strong track across the Saddle. The altitude may begin to impact you, resulting in symptoms such as headaches and nausea from altitude sickness. It is critical to keep hydrated and go slowly; your guide may remind you of the Swahili phrase "pole pole," which means "slowly slowly". Push through one more difficult portion before arriving at School Hut, where you will spend the night after having food. Prepare your daypack and retire early, since you'll be woken up about midnight for the last ascent to the peak!
Day 5: School Hut - Summit(UhuruPeak) - Horombo Hut.
Prepare for an early start! As you begin your trek to the peak, darkness and harsh cold will surround you. Follow the line of headlights ahead of you, led by an experienced leader. Maintain a consistent pace despite the freezing environment and tiredness. After roughly seven hours, you'll arrive at Gillman's Point (5,715m), where you may relax in the warm sunlight. From there, it's only an hour or two to Africa's highest point, Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The return trek takes a similar road, now thawed and dusty. After arriving at School Hut in the late morning, take an hour to recover and have a hot dinner before carrying on to Horombo Hut for the night!
Day 6: Horombo Hut - Marangu Gate - Hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
On the final day of your Nature Joy Discoveries tour, you'll begin your descent to Marangu Gate, which will take around six hours. As you say your goodbyes to your dedicated team, a transfer driver will be waiting to take you away to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and reflecting on the fantastic adventure you've just done, a really remarkable experience!
